5 WHITE MTG CARDS YOU SHOULD BE PLAYING IN COMMANDER

Top Picks: Must-Have White MTG Commander Cards for Philippine Players

Posted on July 03, 2024

White, one of Magic: The Gathering's five colors, embodies honor, law, and defense. It's all about life gain, creature tokens, control, and equipment. Angels, Humans, Soldiers, and Knights are the main creatures in White decks.

For a long time, White was weak in Commander, but recent sets have introduced powerful cards like Trouble in Pairs, Clever Concealment, and Myrel, Shield of Argive. Let's look at five White cards you should include in your Commander decks.

1. Staff of the Storyteller

Staff of the Storyteller is a two-mana artifact from Phyrexia: All Will Be One Commander. When it enters the battlefield, you create a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying. Whenever you create one or more creature tokens, you put a story counter on it. You can pay one white mana, remove a story counter, and tap it to draw a card.

This card provides great value over time. Three mana gets you a creature token and an extra card. Later, you can draw a card for one mana whenever you generate a story counter. White Commander decks that produce creature tokens should add this card.

Boros Commanders like Quintorius, Loremaster, and Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival, as well as Orzhov Commanders like King of the Oathbreakers and Shadrix Silverquill, can trigger its ability easily for extra card draw.

2. Conjurer's Mantle

From March of the Machine Commander, Conjurer's Mantle is a two-mana artifact with equip 1. Equipped creatures get +1/+1, vigilance, and you can look at the top six cards of your library when it attacks. You may reveal a card that shares a creature type with it and put it into your hand, then put the rest on the bottom of your library.

It's easy to find a creature with the same type in a Kindred-themed deck. Soldiers, Knights, Cats, Humans, and Angels work well with this. Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir and flying Angels like Liesa, Shroud of Dusk, and Giada, Font of Hope can repeatedly fill your hand with new threats.

3. Aven Interrupter

Aven Interrupter from Outlaws of Thunder Junction is a 2/2 flyer with flash for three mana. It counters a spell when it enters the battlefield and makes spells cast from graveyards or exile cost two more mana.

This hatebear stops an opponent's spell and penalizes recasting it. Add Aven Interrupter to Hatebears, Stax, Party, and Flying-themed decks. Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, Yasharn, Implacable Earth, and Errant and Giada are great Commanders to use its abilities.

4. Wojek Investigator

Murders at Karlov Manor's Wojek Investigator is a three-mana 2/4 Angel Detective with flying and vigilance. At the beginning of your upkeep, investigate for each opponent with more cards than you.

A steady flow of Clue tokens helps Commanders like Morska, Undersea Sleuth, and Teysa, Opulent Oligarch. Wojek Investigator is also great in decks led by Giada, Font of Hope, and Aurelia, the Law Above. Try it out to discover its value.

5. Illustrious Wanderglyph

Illustrious Wanderglyph from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander is a five-mana 2/2 Golem. It grants other artifact creatures you control +2/+2 if you have the city's blessing and creates a 1/1 colorless Gnome artifact creature token at the beginning of each upkeep.

This card generates incredible value with synergistic cards like Impact Tremors and Rosie Cotton of South Lane. Commanders like Brenard, Ginger Sculptor, and Alibou, Ancient Witness can maximize its abilities. It's a perfect fit for Vihaan, Goldwaker decks, turning your 3/3 Construct Assassin tokens into 5/5s.
