It has only been two days since the Monty Python Secret Lair drop was revealed, and the Bonus Cards have already appeared online. This rapid discovery is atypical, as Bonus Cards usually only surface once players have received their orders. However, early access provided at San Diego Comic-Con has allowed eager fans to see the Bonus Cards ahead of time.

As with the main drop, these Bonus Cards mix average reprints with highly thematic references. While Monty Python aficionados will find much to love, those seeking significant returns on investment (ROI) may be less enthusiastic. The appeal of these cards lies more in their visual and comedic value than in their financial prospects.

Barmy Bonus Cards

Photos of the Monty Python Bonus Cards were shared on Reddit by a user named Captainvontapdat. Available for purchase at the Hasbro booth during San Diego Comic-Con's Preview Night, each drop features a fixed Bonus Card inspired by iconic scenes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Volume 1, containing reprints like Prodigal Sorcerer, Buried Alive, Birds of Paradise, Dismember, and Three Visits, includes Goblin Bombardment re-skinned as Cow-tapult. This card, a popular choice in Commander for its free sacrifice ability, offers both combo potential and grindy value in Aristocrats decks. Despite its playability, it remains an affordable card, typically priced at $1-2.

Volume 2 offers a more intriguing Bonus Card. Featuring darker-themed reprints such as Door to Nothingness, Ashnod’s Altar, and Dark Depths, this volume's Bonus Card is Kezzerdrix, now depicted as the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog. Although the reference delights fans, Kezzerdrix itself is an underwhelming card, stemming from an era when creatures often had significant drawbacks. Its current value is around $0.30, and its collectible variant may not see much appreciation in value.

Where’s The Holy Hand Grenade?!

The inclusion of the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog met many fans' expectations. However, there was widespread anticipation for the iconic Holy Hand Grenade from the film. Its absence has led to disappointment and speculation within the MTG community. Some players theorize that additional Monty Python drops could be in the works, potentially featuring the Holy Hand Grenade. Others suggest it might be a rare Bonus Card, similar to the high-value Fallout Mana Vault. As more players receive their drops, the true extent of the Bonus Cards included will become clearer.

These Monty Python-themed Secret Lair drops showcase WotC’s ability to blend humor and nostalgia, offering fans a unique blend of collectible and playable cards.
