If you’re looking to power up a blue Commander deck in Magic: The Gathering (MTG), nothing does it better than blue card draw. All it takes is a few good draw engines to notice a considerable improvement in your Commander deck. It’s like starting a game with an extra Sol Ring in your deck. When you draw one, it makes all the difference.
In this list, we’re looking exclusively at blue card draw engines or massive card draw on rate abilities. That means no Ponder, Brainstorm, or Preordain. They just don’t have the same level of impact, although they are great cantrips.
#1 Rhystic Study - ₱2,500 to ₱3,000
- Rhystic Study: The most feared and respected draw engine in Commander is Rhystic Study. Either your opponents all slow down their tempo, or you’ll be drawing cards. Any blue Commander deck becomes instantly more powerful when it includes Rhystic Study. It’s not uncommon to have games where it draws you 5+ cards before someone drops a removal on it.
#2 Mystic Remora - ₱1,500 to ₱2,000
- Mystic Remora: The next auto-include blue card draw engine for Commander is Mystic Remora. It’s slightly less powerful since you have to pay an upkeep cost, and it only triggers on noncreature spells. In many games with experienced players, this will simply stall the board as they wait for the Remora player to fail to pay its growing upkeep cost. Still, for a single blue mana, there’s no other blue card with as much card draw potential as Mystic Remora, except for Ancestral Recall, which is not legal in the format.
#3 Windfall - ₱500 to ₱700
#4 Fact or Fiction - ₱300 to ₱500
- Fact or Fiction: Fact or Fiction shines as the best 4-mana instant blue card draw in Commander. You’ll receive the best assortment of cards from the top 5 of your deck. In a deck with graveyard recursion, putting cards into your graveyard can sometimes be more beneficial than into your hand, making it potentially superior to a ‘draw 5 for 4’ spell.
#5 Ledger Shredder - ₱2,000 to ₱2,500
- Ledger Shredder: Ledger Shredder is the only card in this list that doesn’t actually net you additional cards, but its looting ability is next level. If your opponents are double-casting spells, they aren’t winning the game. Playing this on turn 2 will give you 5 or more loot triggers throughout the game. It will also leave you with a formidable-sized flying creature to beat face and block with.
#6 Dig Through Time - ₱100 to ₱200
- Dig Through Time: Ignore the mana value of eight here. Dig Through Time costs only two mana when you delve and draws you the best two cards out of the top seven of your deck. This is more of a late-game card, as you’ll typically want to cast it for its delve cost.
#7 Treasure Cruise - ₱50 to ₱100
#8 The Reality Chip - ₱500 to ₱700
- The Reality Chip: A newer addition that has become quite popular in Commander is The Reality Chip. It’s a cheaper mana value version of Future Sight. Once this card gets going, you’ll be able to draw a grip full of cards over the course of a game. Give it a try!
#9 Midnight Clock - ₱200 to ₱300
- Midnight Clock: Every blue deck I run includes a copy of Midnight Clock. It receives an upkeep trigger on everyone’s turn, not just yours. After having this card out for 3-4 turns, you should be guaranteed to have 12 counters on it. Drawing 7 cards with a 3-4 turn delay is very powerful if you start with it in your opening hand. Late game, it’s not as effective, but neither are cards like Rhystic Study.
#10 Time Spiral - ₱4,000 to ₱6,000
