Epic Duels Defined: Today's Modern Battle at the Contemporary Nook.

MTG Modern Tournament Recap at Contemporary Nook

Hey fellow planeswalkers! If you missed out on Sunday’s action at Contemporary Nook in Anonas, Cubao, here’s a closer look at how things played out: With Jeff Uy coming in first place this night! But let's not forget our second placer Kenneth Lagman!

Round 1:
Jeff Uy with Peregrine Food vs. Kemo Gimpao’s Goryo’s Reanimate
This was quite the game to kick things off. Jeff’s Peregrine Food deck, with its unique combo of generating tokens and using food synergies, faced off against Kemo’s Goryo’s Reanimate, which is all about that graveyard play. With Jeff potentially having answers like Soul-Guide Lantern in his sideboard, it was intriguing to see how Kemo navigated those challenges.

Round 2:
Jeff Uy’s Peregrine Food vs. Boros Burn
The pace shifted with this matchup. Boros Burn, known for its aggressive plays, tried to finish the game quickly. But Jeff’s deck had tricks up its sleeve. The food tokens not only enabled combos but also provided crucial life gain, giving Jeff a fighting chance against the barrage of burn spells.

Round 3:
Jeff Uy’s Peregrine Food vs. Kenneth Lagman’s Grixis Control
This was the big one everyone was waiting for. Grixis Control, piloted by Kenneth, has a variety of answers and threats. But instead of going head-to-head, both players made a strategic call and went for a tactical draw. It’s always interesting to see seasoned players make decisions beyond the board, keeping the entire tournament in mind.
